Our Educational Journey

2019

Program Foundation

Started with a focus on European Union law and trade regulations. Our first cohort of 24 students came from backgrounds in business law, seeking deeper understanding of international commerce frameworks.

2021

Curriculum Expansion

Added specialized tracks in human rights law and environmental treaties. Working with practitioners from UN agencies, we developed case studies based on actual diplomatic negotiations and treaty disputes.

2023

Digital Diplomacy Integration

Introduced modules covering cyber law, digital sovereignty, and tech regulation across jurisdictions. Students now work through real scenarios involving data privacy conflicts between different legal systems.

2025

Looking Forward

Plans for autumn 2025 include a new certification track in climate change law and cross-border environmental policy. We're also developing partnerships with legal firms handling international arbitration cases.

Student Outcomes Over Time

Following our graduates through their career development reveals how international law expertise continues to open doors years after completion.

Corporate Legal Counsel

Started our program while working at a mid-size firm handling mostly domestic contracts. The international trade law modules helped him understand compliance requirements for his company's expansion into Asian markets.

Three years later: Now leads his firm's international division, handling multi-jurisdictional mergers and regulatory compliance across four countries.
Two years after completing our human rights law track, she moved from local advocacy work to coordinating with international NGOs on refugee policy. The treaty analysis skills proved essential when working with multiple government agencies.
Current role: Policy advisor for a refugee resettlement organization, helping draft agreements between municipal governments and federal agencies.

Common Learning Challenges We Address

International law can feel overwhelming because it sits at the intersection of multiple legal systems. Here's how we break down the most frequent obstacles students face.

Understanding Treaty Hierarchies

Students often struggle with how different international agreements interact with domestic law, especially when treaties conflict or overlap.

  • Start with bilateral agreements before moving to multilateral treaties
  • Use flowcharts showing how courts actually resolve conflicts
  • Practice with real cases where treaty obligations clashed with national laws
  • Work through Vienna Convention interpretation methods step by step

Jurisdictional Complexity

Figuring out which court has authority in cross-border disputes trips up even experienced lawyers new to international work.

  • Map jurisdiction rules using actual business scenarios
  • Compare how different countries handle forum selection clauses
  • Study enforcement mechanisms through recent arbitration awards
  • Practice identifying the applicable law in mixed-jurisdiction contracts

Cultural Legal Differences

Legal concepts that seem universal often have vastly different applications across civil law, common law, and other legal traditions.

  • Compare contract interpretation approaches across legal families
  • Examine how different systems handle evidence and procedure
  • Study negotiation styles through diplomatic protocol examples
  • Practice drafting agreements that work in multiple legal systems
